MicroGREEN's Process Applies to a Broad Spectrum of Thermoformed Products

WIDE RANGE OF INDUSTRIES

MicroGREEN is ready to help explore the production possibilities for your business. Under a Joint Development Agreement (JDA), testing and prototyping can be done in our facility or yours. We can supply sheets, rolls or thermoformed samples for test market. Our team will work with you to adapt our process to your products and assist in the setup of your production line.

Here are some potential applications. You may think of more.
(Note: clicking on each industry sends to description below)

Food Packaging: MicroGREEN’s process results in several major benefits over current thermoformed and molded packaging. The insulating quality provides benefits for all manner of refrigerated and frozen foods (especially handling abuse). This process uses food-grade carbon dioxide; the FDA already provided a “go ahead” for the MicroGREEN process. Make ovenable/microwavable packaging with common APET at a lower cost than CPET and at a very competitive cost with Polypropylene (PP).

Retail Packaging (non-food): Use MicroGREEN’s process to form thermoplastics into deep-draw shapes with steep sides (5 degrees from vertical). The resulting flexible material provides a “cushioning effect” to protect contents. This is a great way to make cushioning inserts and utilize recycled material.

Cushioning Inserts: Our expanded PET demonstrates superior impact resistance that will not crack because it has a unique integral skin. The expanded core compresses upon impact to absorb shocks. Make thermoformed cushioning inserts with very low density PET to reduce packaging weight and lower costs.

Automotive: Lightweight parts are critical within the automotive industry. A headliner formed with expanded PET (EPET) could provide up to an 80% weight reduction, withstand temperatures up to 400°F and provide added insulating and sound-deadening qualities. At the end of the car’s useful life, the EPET headliner could easily be recycled.

Building Supplies: Closed cell, washable foams made with MicroGREEN’s process provide insulation and sound-limiting benefits. Construct non-structural wall or ceiling panels with large expanded thermoplastic sheets or simulate a Victorian ‘tin’ ceiling with thermoformed, intricately carved panels.

Lighting: The natural integral skin that forms using the MicroGREEN process provides excellent reflective qualities. Combine that with high heat (PET can withstand temperatures up to 400°F) and formability to produce a whole new class of light fixtures.

Appliances: ABS and other thermoplastics are used in the manufacture of many household appliances. The smooth and shiny skin produces a bright, washable surface.

Electronics: Expanded PET, with its glossy surface, is currently used as a screen component in large screen television and monitor production. The MicroGREEN process provides many other applications for electronics, such as parts handling trays used during production.

Aircraft: A lightweight material is very desirable for aircraft. Polyether Imide (PEI) is a thermoplastic with fire-retardant qualities that is currently used in aircraft construction. PEI works well with MicroGREEN’s microcellular technology.
